FAQs
Where is Las Tunas?
Near the southern tip of Baja California Sur, two miles north of Todos Santos town. It is a quiet residential area on the Pacific Coast with walkable restaurants and miles of walkable beach.
Where should I fly to?
San Jose del Cabo International Airport
Which flight should I book?
Please try to coordinate group airport arrivals and departures for savings for both trips. Shoot for noon arrival and afternoon departure. I will support this collective effort. Consider renting a car for pick up and return at the airport. Airport to Todos Santos/Desierto Azul in a taxi is about $200 and 1.5 hours. If you rent a car, please inform me so others might share rides.
Should I secure Mexican Pesos?
Yes. You can do this at your bank at least 2 weeks prior to your trip for taxis, food off property, and good exchange rates.
Where is the retreat taking place?
Award winning Desierto Azul, a tiny boutique hotel which is stellar on their committment to being plastic and chemical free in the rooms and the restaurant.
What is the food plan for the week?
There is a Culinary Nutrition Studio on premises, where one can opt for workshops and cooking classes such as “Anti-Inflammatory Cooking” as well as Panvero Bakery, where we will have breakfast everyday. There are gluten free, refined sugar free and vegan options for a really clan start of every single day. The juice bar at Panvero is extensive, and their really into superfoods and elixirs. It will be an exquisite exploration in healing foods.
Breakfast is the only meal included in the retreat cost. There are refrigerators in each room.
Lunch can be found at Panvero until 2pm or walking out in the village of Las Tunas to explore local foods. Tacos, Birra and so much more!
Dinners are also open for exploring local food in the beach town place of Desierto Azul in Las Tunas, OR taking a 2-mile taxi or rental car drive to the town of Todos Santos, where there will be a mini-jazz fest in restaurants the week we are there. Open free dinner time to explore what’s going on in this hip town with festivities of meals accompanied by the special jazz sets, or somewhere quiet and delicious.
What about Todos Santos?
This town has been touted as “Pueblo Magico”, and you can feel it. Famed for its vibrant arts scene, colonial architecture, excellent surfing, and farm-to-table dining, it offers a laid-back, authentic alternative to bustling Cabo.
Who is this retreat for?
People interested in Nature, Health, Movement and Well-Being. We will practice Eco-Somatic Yoga, Taoist + Qi Gong and meditation practices. We will enjoy Nature and a community of making connections in authentic, in-person, real time life spent together. We will eat really well.
What about alcohol?
There is alcohol on premises as well as a fine mocktail menu at the elixir bar at Desierto Azul. There is much mezcal and anything else you desire in town at the jazz dinners as well. There is no restriction imposed because this is a healthy retreat.
How to save on Room Rates and Sharing?
It is recommended to bring a partner to share a room. There are four rooms available on this intimate retreat. Two rooms have a king bed and are ideal for a couple or other sleeping cohort of 2. One room has a king bed and a single for friend group of 3. One room has two queen sized beds and can max at 4 people in a friend group sharing.
If you’d like to be paired with another retreater, contact Nixa early so we can find an appropriate room share for you.
How many participants will be on the retreat?
4-11 retreaters will fit on property. If we have overflow, there is a hotel near and several airbnbs that Desierto Azul recommends for housing retreaters. All group activities will take place at Desierto Azul, like yoga, breakfast, and 3 rituals per day from the hotel.
Are there planned excursions?
There are loose invitations but no hard schedule.
We will be in Baja at whale sighting season. I was there last year and the whales can be seen standing on the beach. I intend to walk many miles on the beach during the week. Bring binoculars if you have them. Whale sighting boats are available for a day trip if you opt to book something for yourself or other interested retreaters. Very fun.
Turtle releases happen by a local Turtle Sanctuary within minutes from the hotel on the beach every afternoon. It would be a great natural rhythm to attend those, although if you’re having siesta, that would be perfect too.
Dinners in Todos Santos with live Jazz. (venues, bands and musicians TBA as we get closer)
